I was immersed in the world of guitars, tube amps, and the chase for that elusive “Brown Sound.” Back then, long-haired metal bands and the rise of '90s grunge had every guitarist working to dial in their unique tone. Amp modding became a movement of its own, with innovators like Mesa Boogie, Friedman, hot-rodded Marshall JCM800s, and later the Peavey 5150 series redefining what was possible.

I cut my teeth not just playing in bands, but also working in an arcade repair shop fixing old jukeboxes with tube amps. That experience cemented my love for the vintage and evolving tube era. Alongside that, I spent years modifying guitars and experimenting with pickups — chasing the perfect combination of clarity, gain, and character.

Fast forward to today: we live in an incredible time for guitarists. Pickups are available in endless flavors, boutique amps range from low-gain sparkle to face-melting high gain with surgical low-end tightness (think Diezel Herbert Mk3), and classic amps from the '80s and '90s are being reissued or found on the used market everywhere.
